“Slow Your Rolls” Ep:1
:Sacramento & South Yuba River BLM:
I was armed to the teeth. One backpack loaded with two cameras, three lenses, and enough snacks to feed a large squirrel for (four?) minutes, hopefully… I had left Sacramento that morning heading Northeast into the foothills of the Sierra’s in search of some fresh scenery. Having recently started reading though “Forgotten Lands” by Joshua ?, I had BLM lands on the mind. Something in his writing stirred the desire to wander off the beaten path.
So off the path I went…
First hurdle on the path was the road dropping down to the Yuba river valley, a steep series of switchback dropping down through the trees and rocky cliffs. With little extra road on either side I thankfully didn’t run into any uphill traffic. Just when you think that you couldn’t drive down any lower the road levels out into a little parking lot, a vault toilet, and a hard right at the end of the road out onto the wood and steel arch of Edwards Crossing. This was the trailhead for today’s adventure.
Built in 1904, the bridge is only 42 years older than one of my cameras for this trip, a new to me Argus C3. (The Canon 60d, also on this trip, gets an honorable mention for being a youthful 106 years younger!) Loaded with Flic Film’s Electra 100, Kodak Gold 200, and Harman Phoenix II, I took a few snaps and headed off down the trail.
